About the WLC

UsAgainstAlzheimer’s has, since its founding in 2010, been committed to advancing policies on behalf of those communities hardest hit by Alzheimer’s disease, including women. We created our Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) to connect influential women and empower them to take action to catalyze a movement focused on brain health, Alzheimer’s prevention, and health equity.

As a member of the Women’s Leadership Council, you can play an instrumental role in our efforts to create immediate change. Through your support, your advocacy, and outreach to your networks, you can generate much-needed progress in the fight to end Alzheimer’s.

Toward that end, we encourage members to:

  • Convene brain health, Alzheimer’s prevention, and health equity conversations and roundtables in their workplaces and communities;
  • Amplify UsAgainstAlzheimer’s brain health, Alzheimer’s prevention, and health equity messages on social media; and
  • Introduce UsAgainstAlzheimer’s to companies and individuals that may want to participate in and financially support UsA2’s work.

Women Alzheimer’s Statistics

Alzheimer’s is one of the most devastating age-related diseases facing women today. Women are disproportionately affected by Alzheimer’s disease:

  • About 2/3 of Americans diagnosed with Alzheimer’s are women.
  • 63% of all unpaid Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers are women.
  • 19% of women caring for those with Alzheimer’s have had to quit work owing to caregiving duties.
  • Overall, women bear 80 percent of the total cost of Alzheimer’s, which is set to rise dramatically as the disease’s prevalence increases to epidemic proportion.

When it comes to Alzheimer’s disease, we understand the disproportionate risks women face. But we also firmly believe that through the collective power of women uniting through groups like the Women’s Leadership Council and leading the charge to educate and empower one another – and everyone – with the knowledge and resources to optimize their brain health, we might see a day where brain span equals lifespan.
