March 22, 2018 - UsAgainstAlzheimer’s Chairman George Vradenburg today issued the following statement regarding the FY18 funding bill Congress will vote on tomorrow:

“UsAgainstAlzheimer’s applauds Congress for listening to the more than 5.5 million people living with Alzheimer’s disease and their caregivers, and including a historic increase for Alzheimer’s research funding of $414 million. Seven years ago when we launched UsAgainstAlzheimer’s we did so because Alzheimer’s disease needed new voices and a renewed sense of urgency to make the case for the need to increase research funding to identify effectives treatments and a cure. In the past four years we have worked with Congress to more than quadruple research funding from $450 million to $1.8 billion as outlined in the new 2018 spending bill.”

“We thank our champions in the House and Senate, including Chairmen Tom Cole (R-OK) and Roy Blunt (R-MO), and Ranking Members Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and Patty Murray (D-WA) for their continued commitment to addressing the Alzheimer’s challenge through research funding. We are grateful Congress is recognizing the urgent need to expand investment in Alzheimer’s research.”

“Bringing the voices of those most impacted – African American, Latinos, women and veterans – into the discussion has made a difference, and we thank our grassroots advocates and partners’ advocate communities for championing this cause. While we continue to note that the scale of response does not yet match the scale of the problem, we are getting closer.”
