Senator Capito and Representative Sánchez and UsAgainstAlzheimer’s to Host Briefing on New Legislation to Encourage Early Assessment and Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s

Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Representative Linda Sánchez and UsAgainstAlzheimer’s are co-hosting a hill briefing for the CHANGE Act this Wednesday at 2pm in S-115 Capitol. Activists will be on the hill to identify even more co-sponsors and ensure passage of the CHANGE Act, a bipartisan and bicameral bill which will improve early assessment of Alzheimer’s and support caregivers.

The CHANGE Act is a highly-targeted approach to overcome barriers to a faster cure for Alzheimer's disease, the third leading cause of death of Americans, by encouraging timely and accurate assessment, detection and diagnosis, supporting innovative approaches to support family caregivers, and removing regulatory barriers to promising treatments.

 Who will participate?

  • Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Lead Co-Sponsor, CHANGE Act
  • Representative Linda Sánchez (D-CA), Lead Co-Sponsor, CHANGE Act
  • Greg O’Brien, Alzheimer’s Patient, Author, On Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s
  • George Vradenburg, Chairman, UsAgainstAlzheimer’s
  • Kristin Davie, President, Alzheimer's NJ Young Professional Advisory Council
  • Ian Kremer, Executive Director, Leaders Engaged on Alzheimer’s Disease (LEAD) Coalition
  • David Morgan, Global Impact Professor of Translational Science & Molecular Medicine,
    Michigan State University
  • Peter Fitzgerald, Executive Vice President of Policy and Strategy, National Pace Association
  • Stephanie Monroe, Executive Director, AfricanAmericansAgainstAlzheimer’s

 What will the panelists discuss?

  • CHANGE Act bill sponsors Senator Shelley Moore Capito and Representative Linda Sánchez will lead a discussion about how the legislation will expedite a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
  • There will also be informative panel discussions on how the CHANGE Act will provide solutions to Alzheimer’s needs for patients, caregivers, and families, as well as an intimate conversation about the patient and caregiver perspective in the fight to stop Alzheimer’s.

Why do we need the CHANGE Act?

  • Alzheimer’s is the only disease among the top 10 causes of death in the United States without an effective means of prevention, treatment, or cure. With as many as 16 million Americans expected to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s by 2050, and disproportionately high impact on women and communities of color, Alzheimer’s is the health and social economic crisis of this generation.

Members of the media are invited to join the briefing. UsAgainstAlzheimer’s will also be streaming the briefing live on Facebook during the event.
