An August 28, 2016 Philly.com article highlighted issues related to financial elder abuse. According to the article, “Elder financial abuse destroys incomes, engenders health-care inequities, and fractures families. Despite growing public awareness from a parade of high-profile victims, "it remains under-reported, under-recognized, and under-prosecuted," said Joe Snyder, head of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging. With a million people turning 60 every month in the United States, soon older people will outnumber the young. By 2040, there will be more Americans over 80 than there are preschoolers, according to a World Economic Forum report on global demographics.”

An August 27, 2016 Providence Journal article profiled Butler Hospital’s efforts in Alzheimer’s research. According to the article, “[Dr. Stephen P. Salloway], director of the Butler Hospital Memory and Aging Program, rightly ranks as a general in the gathering assault. New diagnostic tools and accelerating development of new drugs that could slow, reverse or prevent the debilitating and fatal disease are among the advanced power they now deploy. It is a campaign involving governments, pharmaceutical firms, research institutes and schools, including the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where Salloway is professor of neurology and psychiatry.”

An August 27, 2016 Providence Journal article profiled Niel Corkery, a longtime educator, health-care advocate and state legislator, who is enrolled in an Alzheimer’s clinical trial. According to Corkery’s wife Maureen, “There is life in spite of tragedies or diseases…but you have to live it. You have to be able to see. You know, the trees are nice and green now. We can take a ride to the beach and enjoy what we have."

An August 26, 2016 Next Avenue article highlighted Clinton and Trump’s stances on caregiving and long-term care issues. According to the article, “Hillary Clinton has more detailed plans on these topics, and has spoken more often and more in depth about them, than Donald Trump, who has rarely mentioned them.”
