CAREGIVER CORNER

A December 1, 2017 Sheridan Road Magazine article focused on Cheryl Levin-Folio, who penned the book, “The 24-Hour Rule: Living with Alzheimer’s,” about her journey as caregiver for husband Michael, who was diagnosed with early-onset AD in 2012. According to Cheryl, “I look at Michael and me as a team, and I educated my children to believe the same. They need to understand it happens to the family. When my son or daughter shares a post on social media, they don’t refer to just their stepfather. They refer to ‘my family,’ because it doesn’t just happen to one person.”

A November 30, 2017 RAC Monitor article looked at innovative models of rural healthcare addressing Alzheimer’s disease, in particular, the needs of caregivers. Some solutions integrate caregiver support such as assessments, counseling, care consultation, home safety inspection, connections to social support networks and education.
