ALZHEIMER'S IN THE MEDIA

An August 22, 2018 The New Yorker article featured the new documentary, “The Rest I Make Up,” Michelle Memran’s new portrait of the playwright María Irene Fornés, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease during the course of filming. According to the article, “The filming continues in a doctor’s office, where Fornés (accompanied by her sister, Carmen Nute), fills out a form to explain the reason for her visit, and struggles to write it—the phrase first emerges as “loss of me,” which is, surprisingly, quite the opposite of what the movie displays.”

RESEARCH AND SCIENCE

An August 20, 2018 Science Daily article looked at analysis of the impact of osteoporosis, affecting an estimated 200 million women, on risk of developing cognitive decline and dementia. “There is big interest in the relationship between osteoporosis and dementia. This study is the first to address this question in a very large database enabling the case-control-comparison between patients with and without osteoporosis,” said Prof. Karel Kostev, Dr MS, from the Epidemiology Team of IQVIA, Frankfurt, Germany.

DEMENTIA AND THE ARTS

An August 21, 2018 Wide Open Country video and article depicted country superstar Brad Paisley performing a medley of Glen Campbell hits in honor of the one-year anniversary of his passing from Alzheimer’s disease. The video was released by AD advocate Kim Campbell on her blog. According to the article, “Since his death, many artists have come forward with tributes. Little Big Town performed “Wichita Lineman” at the CMA Awards last November. Campbell is still remembered as an influential guitarist, songwriter and performer within the country music community.”
