On Pluto Podcast on Alzheimer’s Disease Debuts on iTunes

Greg O’Brien, award-winning investigative journalist, candidly discusses his experience with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease

Washington, DC (June 26th, 2018) UsAgainstAlzheimer's has released On Pluto, a new 12-episode podcast on iTunes, hosted by award-winning investigative journalist and author, Greg O’Brien. The program is based on O’Brien’s book, On Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s. O’Brien was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 59.

Through this program, O’Brien discusses key moments in his journey that reveal the ways in which this disease affects entire families and the emotional toll it takes on both the people living with the disease and their loved ones. With candor and humor, O’Brien allows us to peer into his experience and feel the impact of Alzheimer’s disease.

“Documenting Alzheimer’s disease is my way of getting even with it,” said O’Brien. “I hope that by chronicling my experience, I can help others with the disease or caring for those with the disease know what to expect.”

Appearing last week at a briefing in support of the Concentrating on High-Value Alzheimer's Needs to Get to an End (CHANGE) Act , which encourages early diagnosis, O’Brien spoke of what he refers to as a “demon of a disease” that has affected his mind and his will to live, divulging that twice he has tried to take his own life. O’Brien is particularly worried about what this disease will mean for his children, grandchildren, and our future generations.

“Greg O’Brien’s willingness to open himself up to audiences far and wide and document his journey with Alzheimer’s disease has offered a unique and humanizing perspective into the mind of Alzheimer’s” said George Vradenburg, Founder of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s. “Greg is a true friend and courageous leader in the movement to stop Alzheimer’s. We are proud to amplify the story of his journey and to support his advocacy."

The On Pluto podcast was produced with the A-LIST in support of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s mission to ensure that the voices of those living with dementia and their care partners are at the forefront of the fight to stop Alzheimer’s. You can listen in here.
