According to the article, “Yumanity has benefited greatly from a renewed interest among life sciences investors in treatments for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, which traditionally struggle to attract investment. There are hopes in some quarters that an Eli Lilly drug, Solanezumab, could prove to be the first treatment that can stop the progression of the disease, when the company publishes the results of a large clinical trial later this year.” [behind paywall]

An April 26, 2016 The Washington Post article reported that “Financier Sanford I. “Sandy” Weill and his wife Joan on Tuesday announced a $185 million gift for brain research that they hope will radically change the way we approach issues ranging from mental illnesses and migraines to sleep by bringing them under the umbrella of neurosciences.” According to the article, “In an interview, the Weills described their donation as deeply personal. Sandy Weill's mother suffered from Alzheimer's for the last decade of her life and his father had severe depression.”

An April 25, 2016 Fox News article reported that “researchers at The Rockefeller University have found that manipulating a protein pathway linked with Alzheimer’s helped improve memory impairment in mice— a finding that offers hope for new treatment in humans.”

An April 25, 2016 The San Diego Union-Tribune article reported on the collaboration among drug companies to find treatments for diseases like Alzheimer’s. According to the article, “Yet progress comes slowly against the remaining diseases we struggle with, such as autism, Alzheimer’s and various cancers. So drug companies are collaborating outside their walls to find new solutions. They’re working with academic research institutes and even their own competitors to answer fundamental biomedical questions.”
