About the Role of Individual Giving Officer

The Individual Giving Officer, a key member of the development team reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO), is responsible for implementing strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individual donors with a focus on creating and increasing sustainable revenue for the organization. A dynamic frontline fundraiser, the Individual Giving Officer will help build and manage an evolving portfolio of donors and prospects giving between $1,000 and $25,000 annually as well as partner with an external communications team on digital fundraising campaigns. This full-time employee will work closely with the CDO and collaborate with the development, program, and communications teams to craft proposals, donor engagement communications and touch points, and stewardship reports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • In conjunction with the CDO and development team, execute organizational giving strategy and activity plan for individual giving.
  • Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle including identification, qualification through research, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and appropriate donor recognition.
  • Help build and implement a moves management process and portfolio; regularly research, qualify, and assign donors to portfolio; assist CDO in appropriate team assignments.
  • Engage with donors in a variety of personal ways to identify specific donor interests and deepen their connection to the organization; monitor prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful relationships.
  • Collaborate with the CDO and Special Events Producer to implement donor cultivation and stewardship events across multiple regions, helping to ensure roles are understood and relationship management assignments are confirmed.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with staff and volunteers to regularly identify new donor prospects.
  • Ensure collaboration among UsA2 departments so that donors are receiving consistent and appropriate messages.
  • Manage and execute donor visits, prepare donor briefs, and define relationship management strategies.
  • Set meetings and arrange opportunities for senior staff and board to interact, cultivate, and solicit prospective donors.
  • Regularly and precisely report on progress against annual goal.
  • Actively record and upload interactions for all assigned donors into the donor database.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of five years’ experience in fundraising.
  • Strong work ethic and dedication to addressing a major medical and health justice challenge.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including attention to clarity, persuasiveness, nuance, and tone.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills:
    • Geniality, thoughtfulness, tact, and diplomacy, especially in relationship building with donors.
    • Sensitivity to and competence in communication with and about culturally and socioeconomically diverse populations.
  • Experience in mid- to major-level donor fundraising:
    • Demonstrated ability to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies, follow through on leads, and make cold calls when necessary.
    • Demonstrated success in reaching cultivation and fundraising goals.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, current trends, and best practices.
  • Ability to utilize donor prospecting and management tools including CRM software (Every Action preferred), Wealth Engine, and moves management platforms; MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and database/reporting tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively among small teams, in a complex, fast-paced organization serving multiple stakeholders.
  • When safe and appropriate, willingness to travel as necessary.

Compensation Package

This is a full-time, salaried position, commensurate with experience. The generous benefits package includes 15 vacation days, 10 sick days, standard holidays, a 401k retirement plan with 4% employer match, and a choice of medical plans covering all or a portion of health, vision, and dental insurance.
