We built a very nice garage apartment for my widowed mother 8 years ago. She was 86 years old, still driving and had just given up her volunteer job in a local hospital gift shop. She was an avid reader and walked at least 1 mile a day. She was extremely active for an 86 year old. A couple of years ago when she was approximately 92 years old we began to see dramatic changes in her emotional and mental health. At 92 years of age she was in great physical condition.

A bit about my mom. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2009. We could see changes in her as early as 2006, but I guess we all just thought nothing was wrong and Alzheimer’s never enter our minds till about 2008 when things really started to get out of hand with her. She started calling me telling me the same story day after day, sometimes 3 of 4 times in one day. Then she started saying someone was taking things out of her house. I kept telling her no one was taking anything out. I had told my step dad to go to the Doctors with her and talk to them about what was going on.

"My husband Jeff is 58 and was diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer's Disease at 55. His disease has progressed very rapidly. He is now in the advanced stage. I literally wasn't able to even swallow I was so crushed. It was almost as bad as the day we got the diagnosis.
