An October 13, 2016 WorldHealth.net article reported that “New research in a study published in “Neurology“, a journal of the American Academy of Neurology, has stated that women’s mild cognitive impairment might often be missed, because of their higher scores when verbal memory skill testing is done.”

An October 13, 2016 Medical Xpress article reported on the use of a hormone to treat frontotemporal dementia (FTD). According to the article, “Finger, recently received a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) 2016 Project Grant to look at the use of intranasal oxytocin as a treatment for these deficits of social apathy, empathy and related social behaviours in FTD patients. The funding is worth $1.4 million over four years. Finger is the lead investigator of the 15-site study, which includes five locations in Canada and 10 in the United States. Her work is also supported by a separate grant from the Canada-based Weston Brain Foundation (Weston Brain Institute).”

An October 12, 2016 UC San Diego Health article reported that “Researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine have confirmed that mutation-caused dysfunction in a process cells use to transport molecules within the cell plays a previously suspected but underappreciated role in promoting the heritable form of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but also one that might be remedied with existing therapeutic enzyme inhibitors.”

An October 12, 2016 KHOU.com article and broadcast segment reported on one son’s efforts to document his mother’s life with Alzheimer’s through photography. According to the article, “A photographer whose mom suffers from Alzheimer’s plans to open a gallery to raise awareness of the condition and its impact on caregivers. Some memories fit in albums and make you smile. However, when you’re married for 56 years, confined to a home half the size of a three-car garage and feeding your spouse who can’t speak or remember all the good times, all memories seem sweeter than ice cream.”
